What To Pack For Intensive Outpatient

While some people who decide to enter an intensive outpatient treatment program choose to attend one that is close by so they can continue living at home and keeping up with their family and work obligations, some instead find that a change of scenery could be just the restart they need to make a clean break with old habits and kick off their recovery.

If you’re considering traveling to scenic Delray Beach to enter into an intensive outpatient treatment program, the decision to uproot your life to seek help was probably a difficult one, and thinking through the logistics like what to pack may be one of the last things on your mind. Luckily, we’re here to give you some pointers on what to bring with you on your road to recovery!

The Basics

Obviously, the first thing you’ll want to pack on any extended trip will be the clothing you will need to dress appropriately during your stay.  Then, there are toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, dental floss, hair brush and hair care products, and anything else you would routinely use to keep yourself clean and comfortable during your usual everyday life. But if you do forget any of these commonly available essentials, they should be relatively easy to replace!

However, a photo ID, like a driver’s license or passport, will probably be a good deal harder to manage without and will be needed for check-in as well as for various other activities, so it should rank pretty high on your priority list!

The Fun Stuff

If you are coming from out of town, one thing you can look forward to enjoying at Delray Beach Intensive outpatient is its fun and scenic beach setting. You’ll want to be sure to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and appropriate swimwear to make the most of your tropical surroundings, and sandals or flip flops for those sandy Florida nights. But you’ll also want to pack sturdier footwear, including closed toe shoes, for our equine-assisted therapy, and other active wear you might need to participate in the yoga and other types of adventure therapy we offer!

Fueling Your Recovery

To enter into a treatment program, you will need your medical records and insurance information. You’ll also want to pack any medications you take regularly, as well as a list of prescribed medications and dosages so that our treatment team will be able to arrange any appropriate refills and, if necessary, assess any needed changes to your regimen.

You may also want to bring some reading material to help keep your mind stimulated during your recovery downtime. However, you may want to avoid packing any books that romanticize drinking or drug use. Instead, pack any religious texts you may want to draw strength from and other recovery-related books you think will be inspirational as you undertake your own journey towards wellness. Recovery is hard work, so packing some more relaxing reading material like a fantasy novel or escapist beach read might also not be a bad idea. Finally, you’ll also want to make an effort to pack any items of sentimental value you’d like to have with you during your stay. Maybe a picture of or keepsake from one of your family members will be a good thing to take along on your journey to remind you of what you are working so hard for.
